Life is really pretty much awsome at the moment! Fishing has been excellent. Rilo has been joining me on my river guiding journey. Been working super hard on Extra.Ordinary. Which matty and i have almost completed with the help of Andre Nutini, a kid with amazing talent for what we are doing, making color look sick. I like to ride alot, but I've been rippin around on my mom's bike for a while now.

I finally found a bicycle for myself a couple weeks ago. Anyways, I put new tires on it, and that turned out to be quite the challenge! But 3 tubes later, I'm a tire changing expert. I still need to put new cables on, and find a saddle i like, but im looking forward to riding more in the fall.

Well its back on the river for me and so far the fishing has been incridible. but its probably mostly my mad skillz. Nothing beats, i just now i am realizing how truely lucky i am to be doing what im doing with who im doing it with, with the most beautiful trout in the world, ON the most beautiful streams in the world. Its just mind blowing that i get paid to do what i do out there. So for those of you who havent seen my mini movie from last year "Dry Fly Heaven" then here its is. The gears are turning for a full length 40 mintute documentary style movie over the next two years. super Pumped on it. hopefully i wrangle up enough resources to get it done.

"Home" - Tribute to Fernie

Fernie is a special place and my adopted hometown.

I started this edit back in May to show everyone out there how interesting, odd and unique our town is. The edit slowly made its way into a dedication to my friends and family in Fernie that have made my time to date there so special. I'm out of town for a while and I wanted to leave everyone with something to remember the Westcott's by.
There's so much going on in Fernie its crazy. So many good people and so many good vibes.
Spring is especially sick in Fernie. The transition from winter to summer is my favourite time of year in town. Still some skiing to be had, whether on snow or carpet. The river's raging making for awesome surf. Soft ball kicks off and the Cheeseburgers get back together again. Its just a great time all around. Enjoy the edit.

I've been trying to read more lately. I used to read a lot when I was younger, but the last couple years I've found myself reading less and less. I finished Cat's Cradle last week. I've been wanting to read Vonnegut for some time now, and finally got around to it. He creates a humourous story about the dangers that are a result of man's technological advancements along with human ignorance and stupidity.

Anyways, nice short chapters, with entertaining names. Good stuff. Next is some J.D. Salinger

The snow's finally melted in Calgary, and the sunsets are looking pretty nice from my house. Spring timeee. One more week at Sunshine Village, the park up there is bang on, get shreddin before its done!

Just got back from Oregon yesterday. I wish someone would have told me how good surfing was for the soul before I bought a snowmobile and invested myself way to far into skiing. I'm committed now. But I can definitely say I will be visiting the coast way more than i have been. The beginning was kind of frustrating in the water but the last day the waves were perfect glassy and the last few waves i caught made me want to stay forever. Thomy "little feather" Westcott was also slaying it.. He just bought a new board before leaving and that made him want to say forever. But Here's a few photos with alot more to come. Just wanted to make an appearance on here and let everyone know I didn't disappear. I also got my first roll of holga photos back so stay tuned for those and plenty more pics.

Ive been doing lots lately but not lots. You know? Yesterday I went sledding with some true slednecks and it was awesome . I got to ski with rob this weekend as well. Friday happened to be the best day I've ever skied at Fernie alpine resort. It was sunny. Huge posse. Everyone was going huge. it was amazingly fun. and the vibrations were definitely vibrating. AWSOME ! what else is new. Learning how to manage my snowmobile alot better. I learned that holding the throttle to the bar will get you where ever you want to go its not just a macho thing. Went to pow cow again last weekend it was fun pow. But here's a few photos of whats kinda been going on lately . Heading to Oregon on Wednesday to surf and just take it easy before a long hard work season starts. Ill be posting thoughts and ideas all summer long.

About a month ago I travelled to Utah and onto Colorado to do some contests. I drove from Calgary to SLC with my Dad, Mike. A long drive, but well worth it!

I loved this when I started skiing.. still do. I like going back and watching old parts. This is one of my favourites

Old news now i guess, but It's sad to see someone who has done so much for skiing pass away. Anyways, he died doing what he loved..

Went to calgary a few weeks ago to film the Salomon Jib Academy. A 16 and under competition for little shredders. Top prize is a week in mammoth with the salomon pro team. Pretty cool. heres a video i threw together just to show how rad all the little kids are the these days.

Sled Skiing: Powder Cowboy

Spent the day on Sunday with Thommy and Andre and a few of his friends doing pow laps at pow cow. It was really lots of fun just to do some sled skiing with out camera, just friends and good times. Snow was good. Little bit of a crust underneath with some wind loaded snow in spots and a few good slabs go on me but nothing serious. Skied lots, got lost some, had fun. At the end of the day we a had a super fun session on this little tow in roof stall/sender. I love everything.

Spent a few days in Calgary hitting some handrails with rob and the new snow Calgary received a week ago. The First rail was a nice down rail on both sides with a pretty decent drop off the one side of the rail. We both go some neat tricks, it took me a little while to get into the urban mind frame. Next was Godzilla. Really cool rail. It didn't take us terribly long to get it done. It was a really cool rail to slide. Also there was some garbage all over the stairs which was kinda gross. The last one on the second day was a down,flat,down,flat,down. With a gap in the last flat kinda scary. Neither of us got it before the cops threatened some tickets if they came around the block again and we were still there. So rob pressed record on the camera still frame tried twice and got it. I went and tried twice and slayed myself on the second try. Then we packed up and a peace officer came and tried to give us a $200 ticket each. I casually talked out way out of it. Which was good. I wouldn't recommend going to that rail because you will either get a ticket or go to jail. Seriously. Don't do it. I had fun skiing with rob because I haven't seen him all season, hes the bees knees.

This rail is against the law. Dont do it.

I think i ruined the first two rolls because i was winding the film for 16 shot a roll instead of the actual 12 I'm capable of shooting. Maybe they will turn out real psychedelic. I recently bought my loved one, Ali, a digital SLR for an early birthday present to help her full fill her interest in photography. With intentions of not really even touching the thing i haven't put it down. All i used to do in high school was take photos with a 35mm SLR and the passion as been long gone, especially since I've taken up video. But I find it to be a peaceful break from filming no 3..2..1.. dropping!... NO....CAMERAS READY! just peace and quiet and the ability shoot whatever you see. Here's a few photos we've taken with it. its amazing. I took the first two, and Ali took the second two. The Photos will probably keep on comming.

For those of you who don't know, i recently purchased a 2009 Yamaha nytro snowmobile at a smokin hot price. Now I have respect. respect for the people who handle these things like they weight 4 pounds. I'm getting alot better at sledding but its definitely something to get used to. Like at the beginning when you want to slam on the brakes but really you should just be pinning it. it feels so wrong but so good. These are a few shots of me riding, nothing serious, just showcasing my beautiful snow queen named sasha, but up at the power lines by my house are a great place to learn. Plus i don't have a vehicle that can tow my sled and trailer so its really the only place i can go! But when it comes right down to it sledding is awesome. I just want everyone to know I'm going to be the first person to ever do a front flip on a sled.

We had a few really nice cold sunny days this last week and a few of us made the most of it! A main chair at the ski hill broke down which allowed us to build this beautiful feature in bounds! HOORAY! Anyways its back to snow. Kinda weird snow but snow none the less. Ive been thinking of summer a lot. Its almost time to work away the winter dues. Anyways hope everyone is having fun in the sun where ever they are!

Once in a while when the coaches are short around Fernie I get to coach a group of 6 more 8-12 year olds, and let me tell you. It's beautifully refreshing. Skiing with kids or just being around kids reminds of what life should really be like. Fun, no worries, and excitment. Not just about skiing but LIFE. But watching these kids get stoked on every little hit, drop or box makes me so happy. Its amazing, even though they are a handful i can deal with it a few times year cause in return comes pure happiness. I love those kids. I gave Alex, the youngest, a pair of my tie dye electric goggles. He was pumped.

The Sparwood Handrail.

After spending numerous off days the last few seasons, making the 30 min drive to sparwood, looking for handrails and finding nothing, I was finally happy to be traveling to sparwood with purpose and confidence that someone knew something was there.

Upon arriving at the sparwood day care we were presented with a rail as skinny as a piece of spaghetti, about 25 feet long, with about 5 feet of flat at the beginning and close together. I was stoked. As the neighbors started to gather and things got set up it was time to get rad. Dylan Siggers was on the mission as well as Adam Lauren and a few others came for the show. The gnarly thing about this rail is that there was a crazy knob on the end and what was even gnarlier was the fact you had to ride out through a gate in the fence about 2.5 feet wide. Other wise your getting waffled. Dylan, being his first sort of legit handrail did extremely well greasing it with in his first few tries coming right off the knob at the end. Then he proceeded to lay down a super sameways 270 off through the gate BOO YEAH! Lauren bagged an amazing front board but apparently on film he has no head. which is way cool. When i saw this rail i told myself there was no way i was coming off the end of the same rail I got on. So after spending a few tries feeling out the whole transfer thing and then a few tries of transferring and coming off the other end i was able to stomp the bejesus out of a transfer switch up sameways. It felt good like garlic naan bread in the stomach!

The Rail was bent and looked like oodles of noodles.

I find rainy days at the hill a good time to go the rail park and learn new things. Today it was rainy, wet and warm and I went to the hill with a mission. To complete all 8 switch up 270s out. and it was a mission accomplished. Rainy days are a good time to catch up on some skills.

Hey Shred Cooperative blog looker-aters. My name is Rob. I live in Calgary, Alberta with my family.

This last week I flew to California to go ski half pipe at the winter Dew tour. The contest didn't go too well, I ripped my binding out of my ski on my first contest run through the pipe. So im pretty smart, and didn't bring another pair of skis to the hill. Between my runs I did the mad scramble to try and find skis I could borrow, or fix my biding without much success. So as you could probably imagine, my second run didn't go so hot either. My binding ripped out again, and that was that.

Good thing Northstar has some great rails and fun features in their park. Doing laps through the park was awesome, and nonstop top to bottom. Well that was California.. Sunny, and fun ripping!

After plans for a sled trip to montana fell through with some quick thinking and planning decided to go to salt lake to hang with the cool cats at surface, and boy was it fun. We hit the best backcountry booters ever and at the same time got to meet some of the coolest people ive met through skiing. The intenerary went like this. Shredded powder mountain on day one super fun resort, reminds me of skiing would have been like 20 years ago. The snow was deep but dense and got a few good shots there. Next day was a super neat hip in grizzly gulch where we all got some good shots. While there we saw some snowboarders sessioning the pyramid gap, one of which sent a back ten over the gap. It was basically epic! Next day was park city and i had a migrane so bad i wanted to puke and couldnt even complete the smallest of rails super bummed i couldnt take advantage of the raddest park ever considering i havnt ridden park in forever! THEN we went on a sled mission a few more from the surface crew and built a really nice booter off a cliff over a sled trail onto prime tranny, session went of when seldin stomped quite possibly one of the biggest 5s ,ive ever seen in any movie or in real life, into pow. The trip was epic. the drive was long but tottally worth. I just may be going back soon then i think.

Red Bulls Wrangle the Chute.

Headed to a super fun Comp in golden last weekend. Really really gnarly chutes consisting mostly of rock in to a step up with CRAZY compression then onto a horse manned by competitors that not only bucked back and forth but side to side. It was alot of fun to see everyone out there and there was defintely some gnar to be had. Two main chutes with all sort of drops and senders. Really fun. The step up wasnt so hot making basically only 540s possible to look good. Thommy Aarron, Mikel, Kevin and I headed down for it. 3 days and copius amounts red bull. Awsome. Anywayz everyone came back in one piece so that was awsome. Check out biglines for an article and a video! SICK. heres some pics.

Yesterday I drove to Nelson early in the morning to hit some of the interesting selection of handrails the hilly town has to offer. There I met Alex Wall to film some sweet action. We started on a small down rail which was perfect to spin on but by the time the session heated up we got kicked out which was slightly understandable because it was in some guys from yard.

So after that we literally skied down the street to a down flat down that looks way more tame that it actually was. Alex hit the down then the flat and got bucked 15 feet to the sidewalk below to his elbow/hip on a flat rocky landing. Now since i didn't want to lip slide this rail i built a small little platform so i could come around the telephone pole and literally just step on. The method proved victorious, upon landing on the almost uphill landing a jolt shot through my feet, knees, hips and back reminding that i was 16 no more.

After this headed for the college rail which i don't have a photo of but its a down, long flat, down. Sweet rail but more frustrating than a vegetarian eating fish. Alex got it like second try. It took me a while to finally get a front switch up forwards out. On our nelson trip last year this rail proved to be the most frustrating ever, with lost footage add fire to the flame i had to go back. And go back I did to only to prove once again its was beyond frustrating. Next was the South Nelson Elementary down flat down once again way gnarlier than expected fun though Alex and I came out forwards and backwards i attempted a 270 out which resulted in a bloody elbow and sore head.

Cant wait to go back.

The SEND IT premier was just recent and it feels good to get that behind us so we can officially move forward with this years project, whatever it may be. The premier was good, spent most of time figuring out if people wanted to see the movie or wanted to get wasted. Anywayz thanks to everyone that showed up and bought copies. Some sick prizes were given away. Copies are for sale for $20 at COMMIT snow and skate in fernie or we can mail out copies as well.
